What is an Argument Assignment
- My comment to Jaylee P’s Argumentation Post: I enjoyed reading your examples but your strong inductive argument seemed off. Maybe you could say I have never tried fried Oreos. I like regular Oreos. Therefore, I will like fried Oreos.
- My comment to Bryan C’s Fallacies Post: These are great definitions of the different fallacies, but we were supposed to give examples of each fallacy and pick two more fallacies from the database to give examples of (total of 12).
- My comment to Jack A’s Tolstoy Post: I enjoyed reading your take on Tolstoy’s “What is Art?” I, too, believe that true art can create empathy in the person viewing it. The best thing about it is that everyone can have a different view of art. The emotions it brings to each individual person is like their own connection to the piece itself. I also agree that art can bring back memories, feelings from the past, or even make you feel a way you never have before – art is a wonderful thing. Thanks for your thoughtful post.
- My comment to Kailer’s Hume Post: I agree with your fascination with Hume’s thought that if we cannot perceive while we are sleeping, then how do we know we exist when we are asleep. I also enjoyed reading about how everyone perceives things in a different way because life really is different for each individual person that is why we are called individuals. The brain is very mysterious, something we should all learn about. You did a very good job of explaining Hume’s take on the concept of self.
- My comment to Charlie D’s Unjust Post: I’m sorry to hear that that happened to your girlfriend. I used to live in a complex like that, that was very strict. The person who called probably needed a spot to park in and was just being a jerk. I agree with you that this is morally unjust.
- My comment to Nanda G’s Post: I enjoyed reading your post about Aristotle’s Poetics. I agree with what you said about pity and fear. When we read or watch the characters and we start gaining a connection to them it creates empathy in us as the reader or the viewer, It is clear to me that you have a good understanding on the message that Aristotle is sharing with us here.
- My comment to Andrew G’s Post: I agree with your comment about there being many similarities between the film and Plato’s Hierarchical scheme of reality. The movie goes back and forth so much that by the end of it you are almost wondering if the world you are in is, in fact, the physical world. I also enjoyed your comment about how Plato would not like the VR in gaming today and I agree with you, haha.
- My comment to Maricela H’s Frankfurt Post: You have a clear concept of the message that Frankfurt is telling us. I enjoyed reading his idea of what separates us from other creatures is the fact that we can self-evaluate while others cannot. Animals cannot decide what is right or wrong, they act on pure instinct. I also agree with your idea of Frankfurt being an open-minded person.
- My comment to Adrianna M’s MacIntyre Post: You did a great job of describing the meanings of MacIntyre’s “The Storytelling Animal.” I agree with your comment that decisions lead to life lessons – whether bad or good. Your personal example is very thoughtful. It is a beautiful thing when two people can be together as individuals and be considerate of one another’s feelings. I wish you the best of luck in your relationship.
- My comment to Erica N’s Descartes Post: I was fascinated by your post – Descartes’s battle with being unsure of what really is “real” starts to make you think about your own life and makes you wonder if things are real. It makes me anxious to think that God could put this hear as a deception. You did a stellar job of communicating the meanings behind the quotes you posted.
- My comment to Erik O’s Fallacies Post: You did a wonderful job of giving examples that explain the meaning of the different fallacies. I especially enjoyed reading the Tu Quoque example. My dad was also a hypocrite about things like smoking cigarettes. You give a good understanding of each fallacy.
- My comment to Jaylee P’s Descartes Post: I enjoyed reading your post. Your idea about us existing but being unsure of everything else is something I can agree with. You clearly described the meaning that Descartes is trying to convey in Meditations II.
- My comment to Simon P’s ExistenZ Post: You gave a clear meaning of the movie and you gave great connections between the movie and Plato’s hierarchical scheme of reality. I enjoyed all the connections you made about Plato seeing art as evil in a sort of way because it leads people to perceive the world in an unreal way.
- My comment to Karolina P’s Existentialism Post: You gave a clear understanding of Satre’s Human Existentialism. You clearly explained Satre’s quotes that you included in your post. I especially enjoyed reading your comment about Satre’s view on Christians and Atheists. It was very fascinating.
- My comment to Summer T’s Injustice Post: You gave clear premises and a conclusion. I am sorry to hear about your friend, that is so wrong of his family. This is a great example of injustice. To be ridiculed by your peers is one thing but to be ridiculed by family, the people that you are constantly around who should be encouraging you is something that can scar you forever. I hope the support of friends like you can lift him back up.
